How Stayza availability works: owner confirmation and alerts
How Stayza availability works: owner-confirmed statuses, the 14-day freshness rule, expected opening dates and one-time availability alerts explained.

Key takeaways
- Where availability is shown, it is an owner report; some listings have no report or alert option.
- Reports older than 14 days become unconfirmed; missing reports also lack a current confirmation.
- An expected available-from date never automatically becomes a confirmed available room.
- Alerts are intended for one opening notification per watch, depend on a fresh owner update and never reserve a room.
- Always confirm your specific room and move-in date directly with the owner.
Where owner-confirmed availability is shown, Stayza displays the owner's report and confirmation date. A report more than 14 days old becomes unconfirmed. Missing reports and full listings whose expected opening date has arrived also lack current confirmation. Availability alerts can tell you when an owner reports an opening, but they never reserve a room.
Stayza is a Pakistani accommodation marketplace where students and professionals compare hostels, rooms and apartments and contact owners directly. This guide explains the statuses, the freshness rule and the alerts, and how to use them when searching.
Availability updates are available to participating owners. Some listings have no report or alert button; an absent label does not establish whether a room is free. Contact the owner when the information you need is missing.
What do the availability statuses mean?
For hostels and shared apartments, participating owners can report available, limited or full by room type. Private rooms and whole apartments use a single-unit report, shown as available or occupied/rented. These are status reports, not exact live bed counts.
For a listing with several room types, the listing-wide status summarises them: any available type makes the listing available; otherwise a limited type makes it limited; otherwise it is full.
| Status | What it tells you | What it does not tell you |
|---|---|---|
| Available | The owner reported availability | A specific room, or the number of beds |
| Limited | The owner reported few spots | Exactly how many remain |
| Full | The owner reported no availability | When something will open |
| Unconfirmed | There is no current usable owner confirmation | That the property is full or available |
The full explanation is on the owner-confirmed availability page.
What is the 14-day freshness rule?
An availability label is useful only if you know how recent it is. Once an owner's confirmation is more than 14 days old, its effective status becomes unconfirmed. The listing can remain visible; it is the availability assertion that expires. A missing report also has no current confirmation. Unconfirmed does not mean the property is full or available.
The old confirmation does not refresh automatically. The owner must provide a fresh confirmation before it is shown as current again. Read more under availability freshness.
What happens with an expected opening date?
A full listing may include an expected available-from date. When that date arrives or passes, the status becomes unconfirmed until the owner updates it. Stayza does not infer a vacancy from a calendar date, because the previous occupant's plans may have changed. An expected opening date never automatically becomes a confirmed available room.
So if you are planning a move for a particular month, treat the date as a reason to ask the owner, not as a promise. For a room becoming free later, check both the stated free-from date and the date the owner last confirmed availability.
How do availability alerts work?
On a full listing that offers the option, sign in and choose "Notify me when a spot opens". The alert watches the listing's owner-confirmed status, rather than a particular room. The alert process checks for a fresh available or limited report confirmed after you started the watch. It can then create an in-app notification and send an email, subject to email preferences and delivery. It does not promise instant notification.
Some points to remember:
- Alerts depend on the owner updating the status. They do not independently detect an empty room or promise instant delivery.
- Watches are intended to produce one opening alert and are marked as notified after processing. They do not provide ongoing notifications of every later change.
- You can stop an active alert with Stop alert, or manage watched spots in your alerts dashboard.
- Email delivery follows your notification preferences.
See availability alerts for the details.
How should I use availability when searching?
- Read the listing's availability status and the confirmation age.
- Use a recent confirmation to narrow your shortlist.
- Treat an unconfirmed status as a reason to ask, not as available or full.
- Contact the owner about your intended room type and move-in date.
- Remember that someone else may have contacted the host since the update.
You can run this with search and line up options in Compare. If you contact a host through WhatsApp or a call, a message is an inquiry rather than a reservation; see direct owner contact.
What does this look like in practice?
Imagine two listings. One was confirmed available yesterday, which is a recent owner report. The other was confirmed available more than 14 days ago, so it shows as unconfirmed. Both still need a conversation with the owner about your exact room and dates. The first is simply a better place to start, and the second is a prompt to ask for a current update.
Now imagine a full listing with an expected available-from date that has passed. It is unconfirmed until the owner updates it. Contact the owner directly about the room; the "Notify me" button is offered while a listing has a current full status. An existing watch does not treat the expected date alone as an opening.
Is availability the same as verification?
No. Availability freshness is separate from the date of a video review or physical inspection. A listing can be verified and show an unconfirmed status, or the other way round. For the checks behind the badges, read how Stayza verification works.
What should I do near a campus?
The same rules apply. For a campus-specific walkthrough, see hostels near NUST Islamabad or the COMSATS guide, which also advises checking the stated free-from date and the date the owner last confirmed availability. The university accommodation hub links to every campus page.
What does this mean for owners?
Participating owners keep their reports useful by reconfirming availability before the 14-day freshness window expires. Owners who want to list a property can start from list your hostel. The updates page records documentation editions; an editorial date does not establish when a feature became available. For other topics see Stayza updates and the FAQ.
Frequently asked questions
Does availability refresh automatically after 14 days?
No. The old confirmation expires to unconfirmed. The owner must provide a fresh confirmation before it is shown as current again.
Does an unconfirmed listing mean the property is full?
No. There is no current usable confirmation: a report may be missing or older than 14 days, or a full listing's expected opening date may have arrived. Ask the owner about your room and dates.
Will an availability alert reserve a place for me?
No. It is a notification about an owner-reported opening. The owner confirms any reservation or rental arrangement directly.
Can I cancel an availability alert?
Yes. Use Stop alert on the watched listing, or remove the watch from your alerts dashboard.
